[CROSS/USA] Founded in 1846, Cross is America's longest-standing writing instrument brand, and is now expanding globally. The year 1846, when the Cross Pen Company was founded by Richard Cross and Edward W. Bradbury, was also the year that Richard Cross's eldest son, Alonzo Townsend Cross, was born, who would have a great influence on the company. The Cross family, who moved from England to the New World of America, started their business by manufacturing magnificently decorated gold and silver pencil holders. In 1873, the eldest son, Alonzo, obtained his first patent in the United States and invented the pencil case and pen holder. In the 1880s, they invented the "telescopic pencil," which was retractable like a telescope and was called "magic" at the time, the "stylographic pen," the forerunner of modern ballpoint pens, and the "retractable pencil," the prototype of pencils, and obtained 26 patents in the United States and seven in the United Kingdom. Later, they manufactured the first fountain pen, named "Peerless," with its intricate design, and it quickly became a standard writing instrument throughout America. In 1916, the Boss family, who had been working at Cross for many years, purchased the company, and under the Boss family, Cross released a series of writing instruments with even more sophisticated designs. In 1918, they released the Allright, in 1935 they released the Signet, the predecessor of Cross's signature product, the Century, and in 1946, to commemorate their 100th anniversary, they released the Century Pencil. It became a huge hit, and was called the signature model of American writing implements. The "lifetime mechanical warranty system" for writing implements, introduced in 1949, is proof of their confidence in the quality of their products. Cross writing implements are still loved around the world, starting with the "Townsend" collection, named after the founder's eldest son, Alonzo, known as the "Pen of the American President." Cross is one of America's leading manufacturers, with a global reputation for quality, design, and craftsmanship. *Colors may appear different from the actual product depending on your display.
